YouTube Gets a Major Makeover! New Look, Icons & Player Design Rolling Out for Everyone
| YouTube Premium With Mobile |
YouTube’s biggest visual update in a while is finally here! After teasing it last week, Google is now rolling out the all-new video player, updated icons, and a fresh design across YouTube for both Android and iOS.
Bolder, Cleaner Icons Everywhere
Every icon across the app — from the top navigation bar to the video player — now sports a modern, bolder look with rounded edges. The new icons are designed to be easier on the eyes and more visible on any screen.
A Smarter, Sleeker Video Player
Most of the updates focus on the video player itself, aimed at showing you more of what matters — the video. In portrait mode, you’ll spot the redesigned icon set, including a bigger, circular button for switching to landscape view. Premium controls have also been refreshed with a more modern feel.
Even the Like and Dislike buttons have been reimagined — complete with longer thumbs! Plus, liking a video now triggers fun, dynamic visuals that match the type of content. For example, like a music video, and you’ll see musical notes dance across your screen; like a sports clip, and you’ll get sporty animations.
Landscape Mode Gets an Upgrade
In landscape view, all key actions — thumbs up/down, comments, save, share, and more — now sit neatly inside a pill-shaped bar at the bottom-left corner. The “More videos” button also looks cleaner than before. When you pause a video, the background no longer darkens, keeping your screen bright and consistent.
Subtle, Less Distracting Animations
YouTube’s famous double-tap to skip gesture has also been refined. The new animation is smaller and less intrusive, making it easier to stay focused on what you’re watching.
Smoother Navigation Across the App
Beyond the player, YouTube has added subtle tweaks for a more seamless experience:
- Moving between tabs now feels smoother with a new slide-up animation.
- Saving videos to playlists or “Watch Later” has been simplified with a cleaner design.
- Comment threads are easier to follow, making it simpler to track conversations.
Available Now on Android & iOS
The redesign is rolling out widely today with YouTube version 20.42 on Android and iOS. If you don’t see it yet, try force-stopping and relaunching the app.
Looks like YouTube’s new look isn’t just about style it’s built for a smoother, more interactive watching experience.
