Islamabad, October 19, 2025 — The federal government has approved the Wheat Policy 2025-26, setting the official procurement price at Rs3,500 per 40 kilograms, aiming to protect farmers and stabilize national wheat stocks.
A high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad finalized the policy, which aligns local wheat prices with international import rates. Officials said the move is meant to ensure fair returns for farmers while maintaining strategic reserves for the country.
According to the new plan, wheat can now move freely across provinces, removing all previous restrictions. This change is expected to guarantee steady availability of wheat nationwide and help balance prices in local markets.
The Federal Minister for National Food Security will lead a national wheat monitoring committee, which will include representatives from all provinces. The committee will meet weekly to review implementation and report directly to the Prime Minister.
The meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan, a representative from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, and other key stakeholders.
Officials said the government’s new policy reflects its commitment to supporting farmers and maintaining food security amid changing global market trends.
