In a recent chat with The Wall Street Journal, George Lucas revealed that he’s completely stepped away from Star Wars since selling Lucasfilm to Disney back in 2012 for a whopping $4.05 billion.
Now, the legendary filmmaker’s focus is on something entirely new—the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. Valued at around $1 billion, the museum is being built in Los Angeles and is set to open its doors in 2026.
The massive space will showcase more than 40,000 pieces from Lucas’s personal collection, including comics, film memorabilia, and digital art. But fans hoping for a deep dive into Star Wars might be surprised—only one gallery will be dedicated to artifacts from the iconic saga.
Lucas made it clear that the museum’s purpose goes beyond lightsabers and galaxies far, far away. It’s about celebrating storytelling in all its forms—whether through painting, cinema, or pop culture.
